The prolongation of the political crisis, through which Greece has been passm?: for the last four months, and the uncertainty and instability to which it has given rise, have resulted in an alarming economic crisis, (says a Kouter's message from Athens under date January 3). Capital has beer nervously withdrawn from the marketand' left idle, or has oven-been invested for safety abroad. The banks know something of" this state of 'affairs. Debtors have ceased +o pay * elr . debts,.not knowing what the morrow may have in etora for them. . - ~,,,„, Every one, from the highest to the. lowv est, is prepared for eniergencies. All' business is at a standstill, and the great industries are reducing their activity to a minimum. The Bourse is idle and uneasy. At the Court cf Commerce the list of bankrupts, already so long, is being added to daily. The hotels, great and 6niall, are empty. .In the country and the provincial centres want has already made its appear-. ance. The taxes are not. being paid, or. are collected with great difficulty.; There is not sufficient money in the Public Treasury to"satisfy claimants, or to.pay the salaries of the officials. Every one hopes and demands that an end be put to tho crisis, and' a return made to stable conditions guaranteeing u quiet,and orderly; future. ■•■:'"' . The resignation, of M.
