Sir,—As a. constant reader and great admirer of your paper, kindly allow me spaoo to express my high, appreciation of the news gppeariug ni your issue of the Bth insta'ut that Mr. C. ,J. First, let me say. sir, that during my stay of four years in Wellington I havo watched closely the movements. of onr public men,' in and out of Parliament, and I find, .with a few exceptions, they all have ties, ties of self-interest, monetary or otherwise, and, in consequence of this self-interest, ail senso of honour and tendency- to public good is absolutely ravaged by devotion to self aggrandisement—hence corruption. Why I mention this fact, sir, is, specially, to emphasise the importance of obtaining the soundest man possible for the most important post that the citizens of Wellington can give. Sir, in Mr. C. J. Crawford we have no. extremist, neither is there a trace of the political scab, nor toadyism, to be found in him. He. is .a man of the highest integrity, absolutely sound, and endowed by Nature with a mind arid principle that few men. in this country, possess—a principle which at all times, appeals to the highest sense of reason and judgment. .As Mayor of Miraraar, Mr. C. J. Crawford has given us an insight only to his power.- of • mastering great things, his untiring energy and great business tact, and that he has all the good qualities essential to the making of a great Mayor. Therefore, after due, consideration of all the prospective - candidates mentioned through the press, I ; say with no fear, of contradiction that | Mr. C. J. Crawford is one of the ablest, and straightest men offering his services in this country," and certainly wins easy j the pick for the Mayor's'post.
