*~ THE PONEKE CLUB. The annual report of the Poneke Foot- - ball Club states that the first XV won the 9 senior championship last year. Of the seventeen matches played, fourteen, were won and three lost, the scoring being 291 points for, and- 71 points against. The 1 following were the individual scorers: F. . The score to date of all matches played :'" by the first fifteen shows that 290 games 1 have been played, of which 188 have been 5 won, .74 lost, and 28 drawn. F. "'' ;■'■;;': '; The annual meeting of ■ the Melrose Football Club wai held in.the Victoria Hall, Adelaide Road; last evening. -There was a large attendance of members, and Mr. A. H. Fullford (president) occupied the chair. The annual report- stated that .the committee . regretted.- not. being, able to record the same good fortune as had marked the club's doings in the previous year'.' ■ This doubtless was ' due jto the tact -that -so many..-previous champions had left the city, and though good young material came forward to fill the vacancies, yet the -lack' Of dash and experience was only .'-tort' plainly shown oh" many occasions. The attendance'' at the gymnasium throughout the season had been anything but satisfactory, and 'had stricter attention been paid by members to -this one chief .factor better .'results would doubtless ihave followed. - A • word . of praise,.however, was due to 1 the fourth ' fifteen-for., the way-in which they' kept together.
