Feilding has four representatives in the Manawatu team against the Australian, namely, M'Lean (the captain), Onglcy, Trevena, and Cobue. • The annual sports meeting of the Kimbolton Athletic Club was a success in sport, finance and weather. During the past four quarters Beaconsfield and Dunollv contributed .£72 15s. 2d. out of a total income of .£214 Os. lid. to the Halcombe circuit of the Primitive Methodist Church. The increase on tho sum which they contributed tour years ago. is fully 30 per cent. The annual autumn show of tho. Feuding Horticultural Society is to be held to-dav. - Miss K.. Wilson has been appointed pupil teacher at the Terrace End School, vice Mr. Gilligan, resigned. Jtirs O'Donnell has been promoted to the position of third assistant iu place of Miss Hasting, resigned. At the Manawatu County Council meeting the question of penny-royal as a noxious weed, was discussed. The chairman, Mr. J. G. Wilson, expressed the opinion that the weed.did not do much harm. It generally came on wet ground. Councillor Henson said that it was easily destroyed iu dry weather by burning, dry straw being of much assistance iu ' s'uch "burns." Councillor Masters mentioned that he has got rid of it by. skimploughing the soil and cutting the weed ' off. Councillor Kendall gave it as his opinion that. salt destroyed. the plant easily. ' ' '•LEVIN. On Wednesday ■ afternoon a yacht race was held on Lake Horowhenua, with the following result:—Kona, 1; Waitohi, 2; Viper, 3. ' A oricket match, Manawatu v. Horowhenua, was played at the Wereroa Boys' Training I'arm on Wednesday, afternoon, Manawatu ', winning by nine wickets. Scores:—Manawatu, 154 and 29 for one wicket; Horowhenua, 79 and 101. .A young man named John Mudgway recently had occasion ' to investigate the cause of- the acetylene gas. plant .at his residence ■ going wrong., Somehow or other an explosion occurred, and he sustained a .somewhat badly .injured arm. ■ Harvest thanksgiving services are to ,be held in- the Levin Methodist Church 'on Sunday, when the Rev. T. T. Thomas, of Palmerston North, will be the preayher morning and evening. On Monuiiy evening the fruit and produce will be sold.' . The Progress Lodge, Loyal Orange Institution, will.bo opened on Saturday in Levin, when delegations from Wellington, Palmerston North, and Peilding will bo present.' A banquet will afterwards be held'' in the Century Hall.

Mr. George Hook, of this district, is at prosent an inmate of the Sanatorium at tiotorua. The, local lodge of Druids haye 'decided to hold their second aiiuual fancy-dress ball on Easter Monday night. A string band will be.engaged.for the occasion. The bazaar which •is to be held in the Druids' Hall on St. Patrick's Day (March 17) in aid of Mother Mary Aubert's Homo of Compassion prpmises to be a' very, successful one. Donations are flowing in, and no effort is being spared by tile committee. ' So successful ■ was the Fruit a r nd Flower Show held by the Ladies' Guild 'of the Presbyterian Church that it is likely'that steps .will be taken, to form, a local Horticultural Society, and make the exhibition ; nil annual event. M.uch ,of the success of tho show was due to the energy of the 'secretary, '. Mr. E. , J. Judd. . Tho proceeds will probably be "devoted-', to providing asphalt paths, for the, church. On -Wednesday afternoon Palmerston bowlers defeated the local club by- 103. piSnts to 51.
