The new battleship Posen (18,307 tons, carrying twelve 11-inch guns) was seriously damaged by fire at Kiel. The repairs will occupy several weeks. Berlin, March 8. Herr Basscrman, Leader of the National Liberals, during the Navy debate, said it was not Germany's fault that the size of vessels was constantly increasing. The Navy League, which was also the home of the National Liberals, had, out of regard for the empire's finances, dropped its demand for the construction of ships over and above the provisions of the navy law.
