Dr. Forrest, who joined the steamer at Hobart, arrived here by the Bimutaka yesterday. It is his intention to practise in the" Dominion. The Rev. Macdonald Aspland has returned from a holiday visit to Eotorna and the Waitomo Caves. - Mr. I. J. Rothschild is leaving by the steamer Ruapehu to-nlorrow on a business visit to England and the Continent He expects to be absent from the colony about six months^ . At the Missions to Seamen this evening, Mr. R. Darroch, chief officer of the OTimaroa, is to be presented, with the Royal Humane silver medal for saving life. Mr. DaTroch has been conspicuous for deeds of bravery where lives have,been at stake for: many years. His last exploit was to save a man who had fallen between the wharf 'and'.'the TTlimaroa in Wellington, and who was in imminent risk of being drowned when rescued by the' officer. At the same rime, the next of kin of Mrs. Hope and Mis. Jacobs, stewardesses on the fll-fafcad Penguin, will be presented with in memoriam certificates, awarded by the society for. the conspicuous bravery the two ladies mentioned' displayed on the night of-the wreck. Among the passengers to arrive" from England yesterday on ;a visit to the Dominion was Major Wm. Mordannt Marsh Edwards, VX., a retired officer of the Imperial Army. Major. Edwards, who is 55 years of age, was born at Hardingham, Norfolk, and was educated at Eton, and Trinity College, Cambridge. After passing through Sandhurst, he was gazetted to the 74th Highlanders in 1877, served with.that regiment in the Straits Settlement and Hong-Kong,: and in.Egypt in 1882. He was present at the battle of Tel-el-Kebir, and for his gallant condnet received the Victoria Cross, a.medal and clasp,: and the Khedive's - star. ./Major Edwards served in India in 1884-89, and was five years Adjutant .of the "3rd Battalion of the Highland light Infantry. Ho retired from the army in 1898, and was appointed to His -Majesty's Honourable Corps of Gentlemen at Arms in 1899. His English address is Bargham Hall, Norfolk.
