The Wanganui College-Board of Trustees has obtained leave from the Supreme Court to increase- the amount to bo borrowed in' connection with the erection of the new buildings from £35,Wt) to . The lenders from whom the amount;' is being -borrowed have agreed to' increase , 'the loan to tho desired extent.- •. ■■-■:. , : The.weather continues very warm and somewhat oppressive, but the country continues remarkably green despite the dry spell. Another entry has been received for'the band contest, making 20, a record for the . North Island Band Association. Those entered are Auckland Battalion, Newton (Auckland), Waitara, Jlanaia, Cambridge,* ITcilding, Wanganui' Garrison, AVanganui Cityy Gisbornc, Opunakc, Palmerston North, Tramway (Wellington), .Potone, Citizens , (Duncdin), Newtowu (Sydney), Nelson Garrison, Blenheim Garrison, Hastings, and Hamilton. Host of tho scullers taking part in the big .handicap' hero after' tho New Year havo arrived, and'have started training. ■'■'■' ■ The cuainiiau of the Education Board (Mr. F. Pirani) is much aggrieved at tho action of tho Borough Council in cutting off tho water, from tho board's,offices, because tho latter refused to pay charges which they considered excessive. Tlio council says its officers..found water running to waste, and this the board' donied. The chairman spoke in strong terms about the matter Inst -night, concluding by: Raying that tho time was; opportune to. shift' the office of the board to some centre "where decent treatment would be'given.' , -Ho did'not care whether Palmerston or Hawera.
