Some time. ago..(ho College .Trustees requested the Borough Council that, in view' of the expense of roading(their estate, they should not be required to form and metal the roads to- their full width. ' AVangahni County Councils . havo both accepted ,the agreement drawn up.'by, their, delegates in.regard to the maintenance' of .the' road and, river bauli" at Taylorville, and, at last, there is; a. possibility of this long-delayed matter being properly attended to. ...

; The Wahgamii. Observatory Trustees, in view of their action in allowing, the-free use of Hie institution to tho upper standards of the local schools for astronomical study,'has applied for a subsidy from the -Borough Council. To this request the council has promised favourable ■ consideration when framing their estimates.

The tramway takings for November'amounted to ,£7ll 3s. 3d., and tho number of passengers ■carried was 108,000. -' .

The civil sittings of the Supreme Court'commenced this .morning before Mr. Justice Chapman... There .was a fairly long list, mostly concerning: the, possession of Native - lands. ":'Tho present ■ dry spelt of weather, and the indications of . its continuance, aro» causing some anxiety, as to. the local .water supply, and the council has prohibited garden watering except for two hours in the morning and two in tho evening. ■ Regarding tho approaching termination of many.leases of excellent and large areas' of Native land at Kai Iwi and Maxwelltown, tho Chamber of Commerce is bringing the matter under the notice of Mr; Hogari, M.P., with a view to having them cut 'up for releasing on terms more advantageous to tho district. The chamber is also sending a deputation to Wellington in a day or two to in-, terview tho Government on the following matters:—Making AVangauui a regrading. port for butter and cheese;;retrenchment at Mouma-. haki Experiment. Farm; differential railway rates; .and the Wanganui river road.
