NEW ZEALAND COUNCIL. IMPORTANT MATTERS DISCUSSED. The first meeting of tho members of the new Council of the N.Z.A.A.A, was held last night. Present:—Dr. Newman (in the chair), and Messrs. W. H. Pollock, Thompson, Davis, Robinson, Bridge, Larkin, Davies, Chaffey, and Marcyatt. , Election of Office-Bearers. Pursuant to the constitution, the election of office-bearers was held, and resulted as under:—President, Dr. Newman; vioe-presi-dents, Messrs. A. Marryatt and J, Vf. Davii; acting secretary and treasurer, Mr! Marryatt; and auditor, Mr. C. W. Trmgham' junior. ' Secession fidrn Sports Federation. It was pointed out by tho' chairman that it was desired at the rcoent conference of ,delerates that tho council should eecodo from the Now Zealand Sports Federation. Mr Pollock moved, and Mr.' Chaffey seconded a resolution in that direction. Tho motion was agreed to. Australasian Championships. The Question of the Australasian amateur t!&s©cl' Brisbane was then' disDr. Newman stated f&at now thcro was a i regularly constituted- oouncil it pught to let 1 all athletes know whether it was intended to / send a team so that they might keep in l 1 form, • ' { Mr. Thompson moved, and Mr. Pollock i seoonded, that tho date of the championships 1 bo agreed to. ' , j It was mentioned by .Mr. Bridge that the, T conference had recommended that the cham- i pionships should be held between Now Year i and April. . . • j ■ Mr. Davies said that the other States aad a agreed to the championships being hold in August. '' ' 1 i The motion, which was amended to the effect that the council agreed to tho date owing to the fact that sine© tho oonferenco met th« other States had como to an agreement on the point, was then Approved. With a view to Bending a team to tho Australasian championships, it was then resolved that each centre bo informed.as to the, state of the funds, also that they ap-' t point a selector, and give notice to likely competitors to gd jnto training. Whilst o this matter was being discussed, Mr. Davies C mentioned that the balanco-sheet of the late h oouncil, which was' dated September 30, 1908, showed a credit balance of £46. is t' the old council went out of office two months c later, the amount could not be, much re- t' duced. • e Cross-Country Championship. 'A recommendation from tho conference ii that a true cross-country championship bo a resuscitated, was then referred to. Mr. Marryatt pointed out that Otago was fighting very hard to have such a champion-. , ship re-established. It was agreed that o, a Bub-committoo, consisting of Messrs.
