1 .The Pahiatua branch of-the New Zealand 8 Farmers''; Union ..(telegraphs >our: correspond--5 ent) has {decided to forward the following reT mifs to the Provincial Conference to be held " at Eketahuna on May. 25: —(1) That this ® branch is of opinion that a mistako has been * made in the past by the Advances to Settlers £ Office in fixing the minimum instead of the maximum rate, of interest on loans advanced . to settlers; • (2) -that the mortgage tax should bo abolished, and the taxation on 1 mortgages be in the form of an income. tax; (3) that this branch supports the resolution of the United Chambers of Commerce (Wellington) condemning the present graduated land tax; (4) that the present, system of valuation of. ?■ land for. taxation purposes be abolished, and. 5' the valuation of land-be based on its earning capacity over a term of years. ■ y ..—■■■ V' ' ,
