Tho first debate of. tho session of tho YJiI.C-A Literary and' Debating Soeioty took plaoe, last evening at the rooms, Mr. R. Brown, president,occupying tho chair. Over 30 members wero present. It was moved—"That this meeting endorses tho action of tho New Zealand Government in offering to 'defrqj the cost of'ono Dreadnought, and if necessary two, such vessels to be part of tho ilmptrial Navy." Mr. Caugliley opened in tho afllrmative, and Mr. Nicklin opposed. The meeting was then thrown open for discussion, and several members. 6poke. Whon the motion was put to tho mooting it was found 1 that tho majority of those present, approved of the action.
