Great enthusiasm was manifested oh Wednesday evening when Mr. Geo.. Cameron was announced as having topped the poll for the council. Mr. Cameron was one of the early settlers in tho district. Ho,is a nativo' of Edinburgh, and an elder'of the local Presbyterian Cmirch. All tho successful candidates returned thanks from the balcony of "the "Chroniclo'! office, as weir as a few of thoso who. were ; unsuccessful. The crowd indulged in plenty, of good-humoured banter, which was taken in good part. '.. v '■■. Inquiry"*'this morning "disclosed the fact that Cyril Bartholomew, who waß.'so' severely injured on Wednesday, shows signs, of^returning, to consciousness.
