Carey .has. been associated with the stage in Australasia for. over thirty years past, and in i that time has played a: wide range of parts:in many, companies—. comedy, 1 tragedy, and farce. .Though not brilliant, he was, an 'able actor, who: ciuld make a good show in almost any type of oharaoter. In his earlier days he played a good: deal in the "legitimate" with .visiting Btars,' and his name used to he associated: with sevoral iparts ,in Bouoica'ultfs Irish- dramas/ Some" fifteen years;ago he was a member of the Brough and Boucicault Comedy Company,:; and ,was'accredited with excellent performances in "The Piekpooket,""Dandy Dick,'.' and several of the broader'comedies-. vAfter that he was for.years associated with. :the :Julius Knight Company, and -will be remembered as'Grimaud: in- The Royal Divorce" (the drunken: innkeeper in the last act),-and'Beau .Nash in "Monsieur Beauoaire." Lately'he has been'associatedin Mey3nell and Gunn's and Allan Hamilton's; dramatic companies, and : was last hero as amembor of "The Little Breadwinner" Company. His last engagement, was With Allan, Hamilton in Sydney, whero he staged a melodrama called "Queon of the Night." About a year ago ho was laid'aside by a sorious illness for some months, -which enfeebled him; greatly. .For years, he had been .troubled-with gout,' and never travelled, without a.portable steam bath.
