FHATRERSTON.

The Foathcrston County Council met in Martinborough on Wednesday. Thoro were present: Councillors A. D. M'Leod (chairman), J. Martin (treasurer), A. Matthews, J M'Master, F. E. Perry A. M. Wilkinson, and T. Benton. A general rate of jd. in tho £ over tho whole county was struok, with an additional l-Bd. in the £ for the Greytown and Otana Ridings. The Works Committees reported that work on tho roads in tho county wcro progressing favourably. A new road to the foreshore of the Wairarapa Lako to give access to tho boat reserve there is to bo dedicated by Mr. A. Tocker. General repairs wore authorised in the various ridings. Tho two men who were charged with theft from the Chinaman's shop were brought hefore two J.l'.'s on Wednesday inorninw. Their names were Bert. Barrows and William Bymo. 'Die former was charged with thoffc, and the latter with receiving stolen goods, knowing them to bo stolen." They were sentenced to three months and one month respectively.
