YACHTING.

[By. Mainsdeet.] In spite of '.'the' '.'heavy nor'-wester, which brought-up'a heavy-sea, on Saturday last a good many of tho larger yachts ventured on a cruise round the harbour. The following boats were out:—Janet, Rona, Kotiri, Mohaki, Muritai, and the auxiliary yacht Ruihi. They left the boat harbour with all reefs in, as the wind' was strong.,' Tho Waitangi, from-Thorndon, went across to Petone,'and,''when-.she came back, tho sea was too rough for her crew to land, consequently they did.not get ashore until about seven o'clock. The Ruihi put up a good raco with the Janet, but the latter had proved too fast when the end of the journey was reached. While the Rona was making a board from the direction of Ward Island she lost her tiller. Tho boat then went about, and ran down to tho boat' harbour. The Nanoya left her moorings at about threo o'clock, but when she wont to go about to head through the entrance of tho boat harbour, she missed stays and ran broadsido on to the Syren, which" was moored close by. After about ten ininuteSCSibe Be * a £ain, and made a board out of tho harbour, but she was soon in trouble again,;;. She went about too soon, and ran her bowsprit on to tho brick wall,-with, such a force-that it was wrenched from its socket.. The crew then lowered away, and drifted back into the boat harbour just escaping Mr. Jamieson's launch, which had come to. itar moorings: jOn Sunday the wind had dropped considerably, and the sea.was touch calmer. All the yachts got out without any trouble, except Rona, which got caught in the Syren's moorings. She had no sooner got free from them than she ran on to the dredge (which was moored just inside tho boat harbour), breaking her bobstay. It was found necessary to lower awny, and go back to the moorings. Most of the fleet were cruising round Somes Islnnd, and Ward. Island, for some time in the morning',; but'after : some time spent there, thoy mado for, ScorChing.Bay, and stayed there for the rest-of the day.- Later in the day the which Jiad Vbe'i?n' for a cruise round Sinclair in;-and anchored near tho rest ofthe'i.vacJ.its!'','.;Thi;following yachts wero anchored in Janet, Rona, May, Syroni"-Kotiri, '"Nanoyiu,- and Mr. Johnson's launch. ..,',*.;; .'"
