(FItOM pun SPECIAL REronTßtt.) I -— : —♦ - j HUTT RIVER BOARD. . A meeting of tho Hutt River Board was held at Lower Hutt on Thursday evening, and was attended by Messrs. R, Stevens (chairman), H. Slndden, T. A. Peferkin.'O. Stevens, and A. Peters. In his report, tho overseer stated that tho now diversion cut thiough the shingle had been completed. Most of the snags and logs in the river courso had been removed, and the heads of Xos. 1 and 2 diversion cuts had been deepened, in order to facilitate the diversion of the river. A letter was read from Mr. J. T. Hawthorn regarding tho proposed lease from him of the offices occupied by the board in the Town Hail buildings. The only terms to which he would agree, he wrote, were that tho period should ho seven years, at ;£GO per annum, without right to sublet. The board resolved to confirm the lease, provided that it be terminated immediately, should the board cease to exist. ALLOTMENT OF FOOTBALL GROUNDS. _On Thursday evening a deputation from Petono Rugby Football Club waited on the special committee of Petone Borough Council— the Mayor (Mr. J. W. MTSwan) and Councillors Short, Castle, and Smith—set up to arrange for the disposal of the local football grounds. The committeo wero asked to consider the position of Petone players in the event of the Wellington Rugby Football Union declining to accept the council's offer of three grounds for the season at ,£165, An assurance was given by _ the committee that, if the lease to the union was not brought about, the council would probably grant .the Petone Club a ground on which to hold practices. ■ Arrangements have been made for a deputation from the Wellington Rugby Union to discuss terms with the committee of Petono Council next week. , It is generally believed that the council will throw the Recreation Ground open to any athletic clubs who desire to use it on Saturday afternoons, in, the event of the Wellington Rugby lootball Union declining the offer how before them. •• ' ; .
