BOWLS.

/ELLINGTON CENTRE'S TOURNAMENT. Tho Wellington Bowling Centre's Easter urnament commenced yesterday morning on e city greens (Wellington Club's Green expled), and had a fairly enjoyable day. The lalificotion in tlio last remark was owing to e weather, which was not the ideal variety r bowling. Tlio sky was a study in dull cys, and the somewhat boisterous north-wes-rly gale developed a rather raw edge as tlio iy went on. Considering the lateness of the ason, the greens were in pretty good condion, and a very fair standard of play was aintnined. , The bulk of the work in connection with le management of the tournament fell upon i- T L Churchward, the centre's energetic cretarv, whose arrangements were as perfect i on the occasion of the New a ear touruaThe following are the competing teams :- Wellington. So far • Blanchard (Kelburne), Price (Newtown), and Dall (Wellington) have gone through without a loss. Ball's team is composed of officials of the Post and. Telegraph Department One of tlio most remarkable wins in yes torday's games was that acnieved by Hendry of the Ilutt. On the fifteenth head (on six teen head games were played) in his gamo witl Brightwell (Thorndon), when the scores wen pretty even, the Thorndon skip lay six, witl only his own last bowl to go and 12ft. to drav a seventh shot. The- fatal Inst clipped cue o Hendry's bowls on the side and knocked in int third position. Such luck could not go wrong and Hendry proved it by getting in a fou on the concluding head, which gave him a twe point win. The furious gusts of wind that swept th greens yesterday were a source of considoi able annoyance to the players. Playing on 111 Thorndon Green Sir Edward Gibbes had t draw one to tio with his last bowl. He ha 15ft. to do it in—under ordinary circumstance a certainty—but the wind blew it away again: tlio bias so hard that soino of the othei thought ho had played a wrong bias bow The "jacK" still remained in tho centro of paddock. On another occasion tho wind liftc one o£ tlio flat-lying rubber mats into the ai and blew it against a player. It blew so hard at Kelburne- that bowls at rest were turned over. The impression such tricks made all depended on tho direction in which tho bowl turned. [ Play will be resumed at 10 a.m. to-day.
