THE NEW CRY.
A (.TIME FOR PULLING APART. • The 'old cry "has been for farmers to stand together. In certain things they should stand jfpgether. But there has come a new cry (sss; "Hoard's Dairyman"), which de-mands'j-that farmers shall separate from one another, in at least the following objects. There Jnrnst be a combination along new lines. For instance: In creamery work those who produce clean, marketable cream, mu6t' deDiand a separation in manufacture from those who are too ignorant or too indifferent to produce such cream'. There is an infection 'in badjcream when mixed with the good that destroys '.-jibe market, value.of.the latter. Bad cream is a foe of the honest, intelligent farmer, robbing him of his just rights and reward for his labour. Therefore, those who would do right must stand together for their mutual protection ■ and profit against those who do not care whether they do right or not, In jthe end the, market separates the good from the bad. The separation must start back at the farm to prevent the good from being made bad by bad company. There must .be a division among farmers as regards infectious diseases. The farmer who has tuberculosis in his herd should not be permitted to spread that disease among his neighbours any more than.he.would be permitted to,. spread ' smal'lpdi.f 'Therefore, for mutual protection there should be laws for irispeetion.and .'testing of all animals offered for sale "and .'also thorough pasteurisation of alKcreaihery shim milk. ••■.-"''' '•'■ There must be a division among farmers in the grading of good cream from bad, at the creamery where gathered cream is received. The general.loss is toogreat to longer stand together as they have done. All these bad conditions are the result of dairySgnorarice—nothing else. If the ignorant farmer is bound to remain ignorant of the things he ought to know, then'he alone, should suffer from the effects of that ignorance. When that is brought about, he will get a "hustle" on himself, as,the saying goes, for there is no smart like, the punishment that ignorance brings.. '
