In consequence of a protest by tho vicar oi Saint Gabriel's, tho Anglican Bishop of Birmingham (Dr. Gore) has inhibited tho Rev. Honsley Heiison, ono of tho canons of Westminster, from preaching in tho Rev. J. 11. Jowett's Froo Church Institute. Dr. Goro announced that ho himself was in favour of Churchmen preaching in Nonconformist churches, but ho was obliged to onforco tho right of an incumbent to prevent another clorgyman from preaching in his parish without lcavo.

Canon Hensley Henson ignored tho inhibition. Tho disputo is oxciting much oouimont, and will jjo to an ecclesiastical court for settlement.

A QUESTION OF LAW, NOT OF OPINION.

Tho question of the legality of an Anglican olorgyniun prenohiug in a Nonconformist Uiurcli. lias been raised on many occasions in iGCGiit years, ulso iho right of one clergyman, to ofhciato in tho parish of another without permission. On previous occasions, Bishoug {wro, taken up a similar attitude to that of l)r. i-iorc. Dr Maclagan, who recently retired Irom the Archbishopric o£ York, has oxpressod very similar views to those of tho Bishop of Birmingham—that it is not a question of personal opinion, but cf ecclesiastical law. , Canon Henson is a conspicuous member of tl\o Broad Church party, ilo advocates'closor union with the Nonconformists, and is au outspoken thinker on theological matters; his ' al "c of the Bible, witli an open letter to the Bishop of London," created much discussion m 1904.
