ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
PATHETIC. Acoording to a jfcclogram received from Now Plymouth by tho polico, a woman, aged about 65 years, whose name is unknown, was found ,in a dying condition yesterday, and expired whilst being conveyed to the hospital by' the police. Tho photograph of a member of tho Bth Contingent was found among deceased's effects, the following being written on the back of the photograph, "To Grandma, from Victor Herbert Nicholson, South African Contingent." The contingent records state that Nicholson is a son of Mrs. Emma Nicholson, Rintoul Street, Wellington. Inquiries mado by the police have failed to locs,to Mrs. Nicholson, who is not now living in Rintoul Street, and whose name does not appear in tho directory. SUDDEN DEATH AT MANAKAU. A telegram received yesterday by Inspector Ellison states that an old age pensioner, named Clarke Rampling, died suddenly at Manakau yesterday morning. Tho coroner does not consider an inquest necessary. A NARROW ESCAPE. Whilst employed working on the mast of the coastal steamer Moa, which is being over, hauled at the Queon's Wharf, a seaman named Alfred Findlow yesterday . lost his hold and fell a distance of about 10ft. to the deck. A scalp wound was inflicted on Findlow's head, which struck the iovcr of the winch. SUDDEN DEATH. CUT TKI.EOKAPII— PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Now rlymouth, March 3. About eltven o'clock this morning a gentleman passing along Cameron Svrcet found a woman lying on the pavement in a dying condition. He at once communicated with the police and a doctor, who ordered her removal to the hospital, but she diet! on tho way. Deceased is at present unknown. She appears to ho about 60 years old, medium height and build, sharp features, and fresh complexion, and has dark hair tinged with grey. An inquest on the body will be held at-3 p.m. to-mirrow. In the meantime inquiries and a post mortem examination will he made.
