AUCKLAND TRAMWAY DISPUTE. Auckland, October 22. . The Arbitration Court to-day was occupied with the proceedings against the Tramway Company instituted by the Labour Department alleging- breaches of award arising out of matters connected with- the recent strike. of tramway employees, the first br.each. alleged being the dismissal of Conductor Hordson without notice and without giving him a reason for the dismissal. MEDICAL INSPECTION OF SCHOOL CHILDREN. Dunedln, October 22. At a meeting of the Education Board this morning, a letter was received from the Strath Taieri Committee" stating that it had appointed Dr. Rosa Collier honorary medical officer to their school, with power to visit, inspect, and report on the health of the children. The appointment was made by. the unanimous vote of the committee and endorsed by. the parents at a public meeting. The committee requested tho board to endorse the appointment. The matter was deferred till next meeting, the board in the meantime to satisfy itself as to whether it was competent for it to make such an appointment. ' - DUNEDIN POWER SUPPLY. Dunedln, October 22. The City Council, after sitting for _ seven hours, decided to duplicate the Waipori hydraulic works at a cost of £37,000. MUNICIPAL FISH MARKETS. Chrlstchurch, October 22. Speaking to a reporter to-day, tho Hon. J. A. Millar stated that a large number of fishermen had made complaints to him in regard to getting their produce on the markets. Complaints had also been made by consumers of tho present methods of selling fish. Tho Marine Department, after giving the subject careful consideration, had come to the conclusion that tho prqier remedy was the establishment of public markets. . It was not a matter for the State to take in hand, but for the City Councils, which could deal with the question' under the Municipal Corporations Act. There were municipal fish-markets in Sydney. They were a convenience for both the fishermen and the public. He had given instruction that communications'on the lines he suggested . should bo sent to the municipal au> thorities at Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunediu. COMPENSATION CASE. Tlie Salvation. Army self-denial results are now coming to hand. The local branch aimed at collecting £580 this year, and so far £483 15s. 9d. has been received, whilo several donations are not yet to hand. Staff-Captain Dixon is very hopeful of getting the desired sum. . ; AN AWARD WANTED. , Christchurch, October 22. The Canterbury Manure, Tallow, Oleo, and Freezing works employees have filed a claim in the Arbitration .Court for an award. An eight-hour day, Is. 3d. per hour for manure and tallow workers, Is. lid. per hour for yard hands and general labourers, and Is. an hour for oleo workers, are among tho principal claims, and overtime rates and the usual holidays are also asked for. The case will com© before the next sitting o. the Arbitration Court at Christchurch. STOLEN PROPERTY GALORE. Christchurch, October 22. Another haul of stolen goods has been made in connection with the recent • series of robberies in the Hornby district-by tho two men Potts and Creager. As the result of a further confession by the prisoners, Chief Detective Bishop and Detective James Kennedy, accompanied by Potts, visited tho latter's house at Hornby and discovered various household furniture and effects, including chairs, mirrors, clothing, crockery, pillows, and bedding. The chairs had been taken to pieces and stowed away in the roof of the house, and the mirrors had been buried. Some of the goods were stolen from Mr. Forward's store, some from Mr. Collins s store, and some from Mr. Kelly's house. Some of the drawers belonging to the chests of drawers that'were stolen the detectives state have been burned.'
