NOTES AND COMMENTS.

The North Otago Jockey Club's meeting will be concluded to-day. Handicaps for: the Waverley-Waitotara Racing Club's meeting will'bo declared tomorrow. Bracken, ran second in the Spring Hack Handicap at Trentham on Wednesday, will be ridden by F. D. Jones in the Trial Stakes to-morrow. According to "Sentinel,", in the " Otago Witness," H. Donovan will most likely ride Probable in the Now Zealand Cup, now that the horse has incurred a penalty for that race. Probable \ras galloped on 111 his race at Dunedin, but the injury is said to be not serious enough to interfere with his preparation. ■ Dear Dolly has been placed in work again at Wanganui, and will be given a run again about Christmas time. Ancyle will probably be entered for the hurdle events .at the Marlborough meeting. Since Mr. A. Hyde became the owner of the Addington gelding, he has been started eleven times, and has filled second place on no feiyer than eight occasions. A large number .of horses competing at Trentham will bo shipped to lliccarton by Tuesday night's boat. ■ Kronstadt, winner of the Stepniak Stakes at Oamaru, was purchased at the Yaldhurst dispersal sale by Mr. 31. Kavanagh, of Christchurch, who gave 400 guineas for the brother to Munjeet. Of the various lots sold at that sale, Ivronstadt is the second one to get on the winning list. The grey gelding, used as a hack by Mr. C. O'Connor at Trentham on Wednesday, was Parvenu (by Petroleum), who used to race at the' small meetings in this district three or four, years ago. Bookmakers wishing to ply their calling at the Wellington Racing • Club's meeting to-morrow must apply for -licenses by 4 p.n° to-day. After that hour no application will be considered. When Dusky Morn collapsed at the War nganui track on Tuesday it was found impossible to take him home, so he was re- j moved to the centre of the racecourse, whore a tent was erected over him. After he had been examined by a veterinary surgeon, little hope of his recovery was entertained. A post-mortem examination- revealed the fact that his back was broken. Last year there were eleven starters for the Poarce. Handicap, run on the second day of. the Wellington -Racing Club's spring meeting. This year's field should be, if anything, better, as fifteen, horses have made the acceptance. The Royal Artillery mare Pearlie has rejoined the active brigade at Hawera, after a spell of several months. The Wairarapa-bred Ferryman, who was sold to a Southland sportsman a couple of months ago, has been entered for the hack events at the Gore meeting. Balaclava, who won the Spring Handicap at Oamaru yesterday, is a full-brother to Petrovna, Tsaritsa, and Master Alix. C. O'Neill has got an addition to his team at Palmerston North in the shape of a five-year-old gelding by The Officer from Miro by Dreadnought from Spinawav by Nordcnfeldt. It is said to be the fastest horso at present in training at Awapuni. Prior to winning the October Hack Hurdles on Wednesday, Liberator had not won a raco since-the. Auckland Racing Club's winter meeting of 1906. • 1 Grenadier rather disappointed his con- 1 nections by his poor showing in the Shorts i Handicap on Wednesday. The Soult horso 1 is not a good traveller, and did not get i settled down to the surroundings at Trent- | ham. Ho was not accepted for in to-mor- I row's race, and is to be shipped to Riccar- ] ton to-night so as to give him plenty of ( time to get over tlio voyage. With Wed- ( nosday's race,' and a couple of ( weeks' worl; at Riccaiton, ho may bo .ex- ; pected to show improved form at tho Now ( Zealand Cup fixture.
