POLICE CASES. (Before Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M.)' .. Two young men, Arthur -Richards and Alexander Young, pleaded guilty to a charge °*, a t Wellington, on or about Aug-' 24, committed theft, of »a watch and chain and 7s. in money, the property of EdJii 1 - t i^ 01 9 Brien. On tho aiiplieation of Chief Detective 'M'Grath, tlie accused, who were only arrested on Wednesday, were remanded for sentence until', this morning to enable further inquiries to bo made. A middle-aged woman named Mary Jefferson pleaded guilt}' to a charge of importuning. Accused intimated her willingness to go into the Salvation Army Home, and was remanded until this morning for sentence to enable inquiries to be .made as to whether the Army authorities can tako her in. Four first offenders, for drunkenness, were each convicted and lined'ss., in default 24 hours' imprisonment, and 'another, who consented to the taking out of a prohibition order, was convicted and discharged.
