Tho debate on the motion relative to the opiunj traffic was resumed at the sitting of ;jthe-Anglican Diocesan Synod this afternoon, when, after considerable discussion, the 1 ; following resolution was adopted "That this Synod desires to _ express its admiration, for the way in which the Government'and people of China are endeavouring; to rid themselves of the terrible evil of opium. The Synod is deeply sensiblo of the national sin and disgrace in which tho Indo-Chinese opium traffic involves the British • Empire, and whilst thankful, in responso to China's appeal for co-operation, some ; means aro now being taken to limit the export of opium from India, trusts that the British Government will exert all tho forces which it commands to tormina to a .trade, which the British House of Comhas twice and on the last occasion unanimously declared to be 'morally indefensible.'" It was also resolved that the bishop .be respectfully requested to forward a copy of this resolution to the. Archbishop of Canterbury.
