SWIMMING.

Tho Thorndon Amateur. Swimming Club wrote to last evening's meeting of the City' Council thanking them for the improvements made to the baths by the instalment of a water-chuto and Roman rings. In view of the fact that the swimming season is just opening, these additional equipments are very acccptable. The water-chute, even at this early stage, is in general use._ It eonsists of a polished wooden slide, with sides, about 20 feet long, and placed at a steep slope above the water. A constant stream of water runs down, sufficient to give pace to the' swimmer, and project him into the baths with exhilarating fovce.
