ENTERTAINMENTS.

OPERA HOUSE. The popularity of the Bland Holt Company, now in its third week at tho Opera' House, shows no sign of diminution. Long before tho curtain rose on "The' Bondman" Ust, evening, the house- was- full to capacity by an audience which unmistakably it's appreciation of the dramatic fare provided. Hall Caine was at his - best, when lie wrote the story, and the experience , lie has gained in later years-in- matters pertaining to the stage has enabled him to' turn out a very creditable stage version of his powerfully-written novel, tliongh it does not lend itself to theatrical representation as readily as some of his other books. : 'The Manxman," for instance, which was played in Wellington by the lato "Wilson" Barrett, and which has. been presented recently in London under the title 6f' "Pete." "The Bondman" looks like running 'out the week to capacity business. . A new melodrama, entitled "The Great Rescue," will he staged on Saturday evening THEATRE ROYAL. The latest picture novelties to be. exhibited in Wellington are those;, depicting.-. balloon and aeroplano experiments by the leaders of the air-conquering movement. These' views forcibly demonstrate tho-. possibilities of aerial navigation 'in the'near future, and give one the impression- that we are only seeing in its embryonic stage, .that which, in a few years,' will become an accomplished fact. Altogether the programme 'is full "of novelties to delight the eye arid please : the senses. THE ROYAL PICTURES. Though last night was the seventh, occasion on which the programme . 'of . pictures , was shown at His Majesty's Theatre, there was a large audience to witness them, and they were much enjoyed. To-night the usual change will bo made, when all new subjects will be shown, including some of 'the latest motion-picture novelties.
