There is a large grassy enclosure at "the corner of Tinakori Road and Park/ Street that on most days looks like-a bowling green, but on Saturday afternoon appeared to have blossomed into a garden, so many gay colours were to be seen all around. .This is the home of the Thorndon Bowling Club, which had a delightful afternoon for its opening celebrations. .It was'a pleasant way to spend the afternoon, walking around the sunny greens,- admiring the skill of tho players, and admiring, too, the beauties of the new large green which has been made with a good deal of labour, and has well repaid the troublo expended on'it. If the club has a weakness it lies in, the fact that it has not a ladies' club belonging to it. That privilege-belongs to the Kelburne Club-alone, but one would hope that tne Thorndon Club, with ' its enlarged grounds, will start a ladies' club of its own. Certainly the ladies attached to the club did'a great'deal on Saturday for the en--tertainmerit of the . hundreds of guests who accepted its hospitality.
