COMPENSATION. "NOT AT AUSTRIA'S EXPENSE." (Rec. October 18, 4.20 p.m.) Berlin, October 17. A semi-official communique published in Berlin indicates that Germany will adopt a cool waiting attitude with regard to the projected Conference.buween the, Powers, pending Turkey's and Austria's acceptance of tie programme. The Austrian and German press ridicule the idea that Servia and Montenegro will be compensated at Austria's expense.
TURKISH VIEWS. PROMISES TO TURKEY ILLUSORY. (Rec. October 18, 4.20 p.m.) Paris, October 17. The Turkish Ambassador to France, Salih Munir Pasha, is unfavourable to the proposed programme of the Conference. Ho is disappointed with tho form taken by Britain's and France's sympathy as set forth in the declaration by M. Isvolsky and Sir Edward Grey, and considers that the proposed compensation to Turkey is illusory. Constantinople, October 16. A leading Young Turk declares that the programme suggested for the Conforenco will prove acceptable, but that tho compensation offored to Turkoy will bo illusory.
