RACE DAY RAILWAY ARRANGEMENTS.

Tiie deputation from the Wellington Racing Club, which waited upon the Minister for Railways yesterday to that in.future, the railway authorities should make adequate ar-

rangements for carrying the public to Trentliam on race days, gave expression to a real grievance. The railway arrangements for the race meeting in •January last were scandalously inadequate. The large crowds which gathered outside the stations at Te Aro and at Thorndon were admitted in single file through two narrow openings, and the jostling and crowding which took place deterred many from making a second visit to the course. It is easy to understand that some difficulty might be experienced in providing for the conveyance of the large crowd back to the City after the meeting, but the arrangements for the outward journey, when the racegoers assemble gradually, should have been more easily coped with. A better system of admittance to the outward-bound trains is an urgent necessity, and, judging by 'the numbers left behind as each train steamed out, the rolling stock provided was far from being as adequate as the Minister appears to believe. The matter is one of much importance to the Racing Club and to the race-going public, an 3 it is to, be hoped that the promise of the Minister to do what is possible in the way of improvement will result in a more satisfactory condition of things at the next meeting of the Club.
