MEMORIAL TO THE LATE PREMIER

R. J. Seddou) on the hill above tho Sydney Street Cemetery. The' Public "Works-Department:lias prepared a design for a \memorial,',i which will surmount the existing vault, now covored by a tin shed. Tenders >.11 'be caUod in a day or. two, for the work. : '; r Tho .'monument will stand on a baso, of three steps,; the lowest of which will be.'23 'feet square,v and the highest; 14 - feet' square.' The memorial ? will take the ■' form. of n i- square tapering 1 column, on a panelled and ornamented pedestal, 16 feet from the ' ground. Tho column - itself will -bo 33 feet high,. and it will 1 bo • surmounted by a statue and base 10 feet high, making tho total height 59 feet from the ground. The 'pedestal will have angled buttresses; at each'.corner, ; surmounted by a moulded truss,' above which there - will be a lion sejant. Tho whole is to be crowned by a symbolic;figure. : . • : The panels will be suitably inscribed.\ The monument 1 will havo a core of ."ferroconcrete and will be faced with New Zealand granite or marble. .
