Central Otago Labour Representative Committee

The Central Otago Labour Representation Committee held its monthly meeting in the Oddfellows Hall, Cromwell, on Saturday, 28th May, the presi dent, Mr J. M. Mackay, in the chair. There were present some 24 delegate? from the Haast Pass, Clyde, Alexandra, Roxburgh, Onrakau. Ophir and Cromwell blanches and some 30 odd members of the local branch. The president of the Cromwell branch, Mr Syd Langsbury. welcomed tire visitors and hoped it would be the forerunner of many more meetings. A visitor present, was Air Campbell, past president of the Clutha L.R.C.. who gave a brief outline of their activities in his electorate. This was very instructive and much appreciated. ’file president reported on the formation of a branch at Ranfurly and indicated that it was being enthusiastically supported in that district. It was decided to hold the next meeting thereon the 25th June. The secretary and Air AlcMahon to arrange for a bus to pick up the delegates on the journey down to Ranfurly. Mr Mackay also reported on his visit to the other end of the electorate at the Taieri where he was well received. A branch was now being formed at Outram and he was invited to visit this district again .in the near future. He did not hold any meetings but went around the. farmers personally, accompanied by Mr Campbell and Mr Kelly who were a tower of strength to the member for Chalmers at the last elections.

The Cromwell branch was accorded a very hearty vote of thanks and appreciation for arranging the meeting and putting on a most enjoyable simper which was much appreciated by nllThe next meeting of the local branch will be held in the same hall on Tuesday, 7th June.
