TO RELIEVE NASAL CATARRH.
Much discomfort and often a good deal of minor ill-health may be caused hy chronic blocking of one or both nostrils. This takes place in the condition popularly called nasal catarrh, and it is usually accompanied by an unpleasant discharge. It is a difficult condition to treat, because there are many local conditions which may lead to the trouble and, secondly, because owing to the complicated structure of the nasal passages, it is often difficult to get at the seat of the mischief. The determination of the actual cause is most important and it will be readily understood that without knowing that cause, the treatment must be of the "hit or miss’ variety. Many of the causes require surgical measures, and these sometimes have to be repeated at intervals to keep the trouble in check. Simple catarrh can often be relieved by using a douche —a simple solution made from a level teaspoonful of borax, common salt and soda bicarbonate to eight ounces of warm water, is often efficacious. This solution should be poured Into the palm of the hand and carefully sniffed up each nostril in turn. But remember that force should not be used, otherwise the delicate structures of the nose may be injured.
