Mr Bodkin M.P., introduced a deputation of Little Valley settlers with a. request that the Council should apply to have men on the unemployed subsidy to carry out extensive repairs to the Little Valley road.—After some discussion it was agreed that it w ould be better to expend the Government's grant already promised by contract. The Engineer's report as under, was read and adopted. No. 80 2 Omakau Bridge.—Completed except tor some minor details and was inspected by the Public Works Engineer and myself on 27th duly last. The contractor lias been paid a 4th progress payment of ,£468, completing the 145 per cent due and deposit refunded. The sum of /AGo, or 5 per cent plus jC 2 S uncompleted work has been withheld until the completion of the maintenance period. No 8(13 Lowburn Bridge—The temporary bridge was almost complete when inspected on the iitii inst. Tho work has been somewhat delayed owing to tho fatal accident when two workmen were drowned on the 13th July. The contractor has been paid a 3rd progress payment of ,£215. No. <873 Deviation at Lauder.— When inspected on tin* 12th inst, about J of formation had been completed including the cutting and embankment. The work is proceeding rapidly and should soon he completed. It was decided to draw the attention of the Public Works Department to the necessity for the erection of bridges at Lowborn Crock and Nino Milo Creek. It was decided to improve the corner at the junction of Koddoll’s road, Brassknoeker, and the main highway. Repairs to the road caused by washout near Ida VaJley Station were a uthorised. It was decided tu gravel a bad portion between Butchers Gully and Conroys IT ill. flic Health -Inspector’s report was approved. the Ranger reported that lie had impounded stock of six first offenders one second offender and one third offender.—lt was decided that legal proceedings be taken against the second and third offender. The Dog Registrar reported that he had registered 1,435 dogs to date. The ferry Ira flic returns were laid on 11k> table. The issue of licenses for one slaugh-ter-house, three public buildings and seven building permits were approved. Accounts amounting to .£lsßl 8s 8d were passed for payment. flic following tenders were received lor contract No. Bq2, Clouston’s road and tile lowest was accepted—J. R. Hughes 4s 3d yard, 15. W.
