(From Our Own Correspondent.)

A very enjoyable afternoon was spent at Hawea on Friday, 12th inst., when the Women's Division of the Farmers! Union held a 'Bring and Buy' Sale. A large number, inclu liug some 22 members, was present. Pro" lessor Strong, of the Home Science Department, gave an interesting ciscourse on the aims and objects of the Division. She also explained just what the Community Chest was for the Farmers' wives. The president? in moving a vote of thanks to Professor Strong, said how very pleased thev all were to have her with them that afternoon. As a result of the sale the Community Chest will benefit to the extent of £7. Afternoon tea brought the afternoon to a close, DOMAIN BOARD AFFAIRS.

The; anuual meeting- of the Wanaka Domain Board, to receive the report and balance-sheet, and for the election of chairman, was held in the Pembroke Hall on May 21st. Mr John Fauikk was re-ciect«# chairmam for the ensuing year. The report showed that alter the completion of the Children's playground the Board had undertaken extensive improvements on the Recreation Reserve. These included the tapping of a spring near the hatchery and the piping of the water a distance of half a mile to the Reserve. The Reserve has now a good supply of drinking water, and also up-to-date sanitary arrangements. The total cost of the work was approximately Generous contributions towards the fund for this work had come from the Cricket Club (£3O), the Football Club and the Tennis Chi") (.£25). The balance-sheet disclosed a small debit balance of £3O which, considering- the magnitude of the completed work, cannot be considered a bad state of affairs. The Board expects to have the debit off during the current year. Owing to lack r.!' finance it is not likely that fresh work will be undertaken this year. The Board thanks Messrs Mathesou and Trevathan for carting, free of charge, all the materials required for the improvements on the Reserve. This , onerous donation has been given for a number of years, in succession, and has been of immense assistance to a committee which has practically no rogu-ar source of income whatever. THE WEATHER.

Since the recent snowfall the weather has been cjuite wonderful for June. A northerly wind, followed by a warm rain cleared the Hats and sunny fuses. ane days have been delightfully warm with very little frost morning or eveiu'ng.
