Hon. P. A. de la Perrelle.

Minister of Internal Affairs, Industries and Commerce

it is common sense to Buy N. Z. Goods

Do Your Utmost now and Continue in the Future

Ever since I assumed the office of Minister of Industries and Commerce I have been constantly urging: consumers in •very part of Now Zealand to buy the products of thii Dominion in preference to imported products. No one wh "> is in touch with business and commercial conditions in this country can fail to realise the utmost importance to the whole community of the adoption of a definite policy of purchasing- New Zealand-made goods on every possible occasion.

This advice has been repeatedly urged by His Excellency, the Governor-General. In the course of his speech on the occasion of the opening-of the Wellington Winter Show, he stated, in reference to tin's matter, tbat our imports consisted largely of goods that could be manufactured in this country, and which ought to be yielding greater employment of a re-productive character to our own local population. "Let business," he concluded, "like charity, begin at home, and you will rind that the cloud of 'depression which now hangs over the country will more speedily uisappear. Above all, do not let us leave the solution of this problem to successive Governments, but let! us each, *tccording to our own means and opportunity, do our utrmost to! solve it."

Let me therefore make an appeal to all your readers to cooperate whole-heartedly in giving effect to this policy, not onlty while the "New Zealand Industries Week" is in progress in Cromwell, but also continuously in the future. Both from a national point of view and in the interests of «each individual member of the community, it is simply a matter of common sense to buy New Zealand goods whenover tney can be obtained.

May I here point out a word of warning to your readers. Do not assume that' a particular article of product is not made in New Zealand, just because it Mas not woduced in ihis country several years ago. If people will only take ■ftSie trouble to find out for themselves they will bo surnriwl »t the wide Variety and the excellent quality of n.ow made in New Zealand. If you want the "New Zealand Industries Week" fr> f>« « real success—to hear abundant fruit—rpmwnlior +V«p *-»in. Buv New Zealand-made goods in preference to imported Articles.
