Cromwell Argus AND NORTHERN GOLDFIELD GAZETTE. Cromwell, Monday, Juue, 22, 1931

The effort which the town is makingthis week in an endeavour to inspire the people with a determination to buy, on every possible occasion, New Zealand-made goods, is a most lauds able one, and tlie sincere hope is that it will have its reward. New Zealand Industries Week is an annual fixture in the large cities, but it is to the credit of Cromwell that it is the first of the small centres to take up the question. The idea emanated from the Mayor, and the community has risen to the occasion, and it is safe to say that the event will be unique in the history of the town. Organisa tion is being carried out thoroughly. Alieady there are signs of, activity m the many shop windows now being" .with the products of -• the; Dominion. In our endeavour to meet the occasion we have done our riieagre best, and having given over extended space to the demands of the function, will reserve our editorial remarks on the question until next issue. In the meantime we will commend to our readers the messages extended by several of our statesmen, messages which offer a good deal of food for thought —-and definite action. That the event will be a success seems beyond doubt. All the space available in three large buildings has been taken up by manufacturers from the cities as well as local tradesmen, and the displays in many respects will be an education. The streets will be decorated and illuminated and /everything possible, will he done to make the town and the Exhibition attractive for the many visitors who have already signified their intention of being present. In addition to the main features of the exhibition there will be many other attractions. The Cromwell Brass Band and an orchestra will) be on duty at the hall, and there is the added novelty of "Mrs Hippo's Mechanical Band." These arc but a few of the details in what promises to be a great event. It can only be hoped that the result will be that the spirit engendered by the actual function will prevail «not. only from June 22nd to June 27th, buttfrom the Ist January to 31st December in each and every year. At that we must leave it this issue and join with the organisation in its effort to inspire the people with a full realisation of how they can assist in relieving the Dominion from its present serious struggle with the unemployment question, by resolving on every occasion to BUY NEW ZEALAND-MADE GOODS
