Cromwell and Poolburn B met at Cromwell on Saturday. The local team had to start with eleven men but was soon reinforced by a few of the "young" brigade—Trevathau, Hayes Stumbles, and Hosking, tor instan y. A couple more went on and for a .vhile Cromwell had 16 men until their o<>ponenta discovered it. What from early appearances promised to be n one-&ided game developed into a close contest. Poolburn scored a try early, but did not improve the score jntd the last few minutes. Cromwell were almost over on more than one occasi »i. The spectators seemed to enjoy the game, particularly the fine display of the emergencies. One of these, John Bilton, should develop into a great forward. Mr R. Thomas was referee.

Both Cromwell teams have fullbacks of great promise, G. Jolly (A), and R. Gibson (B.>, and both, by the way, are High School Boys. Anoth.'i who impresses very much is Pountnoy, a junior on the stail" of the High School.

At Alexandra, the home team was able to keep its line intact agai.i-;t the unbeaten Matakanui, but the I tter scored a potted goal and a. penalty, and won 7-0. Cromwell and Clyde had a hard game on the hitter's ground, and it ended in a draw, six points each, an., in each case a try and a penalty. Poolburn A defaulted to Wanaka. On account of Show Week and other attractions in Dunedin this week. ' me 7th is an off-day with flag matches. The second round, as detailed below, commences on June 14th.
