The General Election.

Mr dailies Horn, the (Hbcral candidate, opened Ids campaign at Grown Terrace on Tuesday evening. Referring to this the “Lake County Press” says : Mr Horn opened his election campaign at Crown Terrace on Tuesday evening, when iie addressed a large meeting in the schoolhouse. Mr William MeKihhin, who was \oled to the chair, said, in introducing Mr Horn, lie had known that gentleman for 1U you.-. As a young man Mr Horn had occupied a position of considerable trust in a commercial business and until recently liehad been engaged in a similiar business on bis own account. Mr MeJvibbiu said it gave him great pleasure to state that aiiy dealings he had with Mr Horn, and also what he had at all times heard of him, he was a man of undoubted ability and honourablein Id business dealings. The lime had now eouie for the electors to choose a representative in place of their old and esteemed friend, !Sir 'William Fraser, and it was for them to judge if Mr Horn was the most suitable person. Mr' Horn, on rising to speak, was g.e-eted with prolonged applause. In Ids opening remarks he said that if .Sir William Fraser had again stood for W.ikatipu, he- would not have opposed him, as -Sir William and himself were warm friends. Air Horn spoke for an hour and three-quarters, and in a clear manner explained Ids views on the lending political questions. After answering a number of questions, the following iiution, proposed by Air Alfred Miller, seconded by Air John Jenkins jun., was carried unanimously : That Mr Horn be thanked for his address, and that this meeting is of opinion that he is a qualified person to represent the electorate in Parliament. We have no hesitation in saying that Mr Horn will get a very large support on Crown Terrace. Follow ing his meeting at Crown Terrace Mr Horn spoke at several centres in the Lakes district. A correspondent .states that at Lower Mhotove-r on 'Thursday evening, Mr Horn had one-of Hie largest political meetings ever held in that centre. After an interesting address the candidatewas accorded a unanimous vote* of thanks and confidence, proposed by Mr Lynch and seconded by Mr M‘Pride.

This week Mr Ifuro speaks in various centres in the Upper Chitlia Valley as detailed in nur advertising o-nhmins. Owing to the many centres to be visited the candidate will require to speak at several places at midday or during the afternoon.

Candidates for the Wakatipu electorate will require to travel over a wide scope of country and will no doubt.find some difficult y in visiting the smaller centres. Mr Jas, Horn, the Liberal candidate, will be in the Upper Clutha district early this week and will have a busy time visiting the various districts. Mr Horn speaks at Makarora to-night. After that he will meet the electors at d p.m. each evening, at Pembroke on Tuesday, J lawca Flat on Wednesday, Tanas on Thursday, Lowburn on Friday, Jlannockburn on Saturday, and Nevis on Monday, 17th.
