SILAS WEGG REDIVIVUS
It would appear from a communication received bv the Victorian Postal department that "the Silas Wc-ggian tendency to -drop into verse ” is nob confined to the Postmaster-General. The Deputy Post-master-General had sent the usual printed memo, to a resident of a northern suburb requesting him, in regard to his application for a private telephone, to complete and return the agreement which had boon forwarded to him. also to pay the li,st year’s rent, otherwise the required nmtallutioii would not be proceeded with. Much 1 o the departmental surprise the card was returned with the following lines neatly writen across it: Wake up, my eon, These things'were done ,A couple of months or more. Requests like these Do far from please. In fact they lu-rt full sore. Investigation proved that the versifier’s contention was correct, as the records showed that the agreement had been completed. the rent paid, and the telephone installed nearly three months previously!
