Cromwell Hospital Trust.

There was a full attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the above on Tuesday viz., Messrs J. Ritchie (chairman), J. Swann, A Foot, C. Kay, Geo. Partridge, and D. Middleton, Minutes of the last meeting wore confirmed. Reports. The Matron reported receiving maintenance amounting* to £4B 7s 4d, and outstanding .£53 6s. The surgeon reported that during the month of September twenty-one patients were admitted to the hospital, and ten remained from tbe previous month. Cf these, fourteen were discharged, cured or relieved, two died (Albert J. Atkins and Claude Faisandiev) from diphtheria, and fifteen remained for further treatment, making a total of thirty-one patients under treatment for the month, Received.

Mr Ray, on behalf of the visiting committee, reported that he had visited the institution. Owing to the large number of patients being treated the stall' was considerably overworked, and they would have to try and maintain a stall' sufficient to cope with the work. In regard co suggested rules for the Maternity Home the chairman stated that the doctor had not yet had time to draw these up. After considering charges for the Home, the committee recommended that the waiting tee be fixed at £1 Is, and the fee for the remainder of the period £6 3s. irrespective of time. These were practically in lino with the Naseby charges. The fees altogether were practically the, same as these paid at present, but the scale of adjustment according to salary was dispensed with. — The recoin inendation was adopted. It was decided to negotiate for an additional three areas of land, adjoining the present area. Dr. Shore submitted a lengthy report on improvements necessary at the hospital. These included the erection of* a new wash-'house away from the present building, converting the present wash-house into a kitchen, installing a new range, increasing the hot-water supply, making the infectious diseases ward more up-to-date, or closing it permanently, and increasing the staff of probationers to more effectively cope with the work. By the suggested alterations to the building necessary accommodation would be provided. The surgeon pointed out that the improvements suggested were urgently required, as under the present conditions tffo stall had a very trying time. The building programme and alterations were agreed to, the work to be carried out at once under the supervision of the chairman. The purchase of a new range was authorised. It was decided to make efforts to obtain the services of three probationers. In reference to the isolation ward, it was resolved, that in view of the epidemic raging during the last six months, and the difficulty in dealing with infectious diseases cases, the Hoard be urged to proceed at once with improvements to the ward. The surgeon mentioned the assistance lent by a convalescent patient, Mrs Johnson, during the recent busy period, and in consideration thereof it was decided to reduce the maintainance charge to this patient to the extent of four guineas, Resolved,—That a concrete tank, with a capacity of 3000 gallons, be erected on the hillside at a height sufficient to control the hot-water service, The matter of the ovei How from the borough water supply was mentioned, but consideration was deferred until the three inch main was installed, A vote of thanks was accorded Nurse Graham for her assistance.
