The quantity of wool sold to home buyers was 78,000 bales, for the Continent L' 3,000 bales, and for the United States 9000 bales, while 5000 were held over. A strong buying movement developed during the last few days owing to a shortage in South America and Australia. All merinos closed ."> per cent above the opening rates, line medium crossbreds from par to ~> per cent above the December rates, coarse equal to the December rates, and lamb's wool which was scarce, 7 J per cent above the December rates. Sydney, January •"><>. The wool sales this week have been marked by increased firmness, and the highest prices of the season have been realised. Creasy wool sold up to Is 'l\ d, and scoured up to Is IL.d. There will he no sales next week.
