The round of competitions unions' the rinks of the local did) for the fern leaves presented hy Messrs Caroline and Liston, reached a finality on Friday evening,. The deciding round was played between Mr Murdoch’s and Mr del ley’s rinks, the former being successful, and (his rink provides the first holders of the trophies. The rinks in the final were :—Stumbles, Er. dolly, Mooney, and Murdoch (s), winners ; Springer, McDonald, Reid, Jolley (s), runnersup-
The ladders of the trophies having been decided, rinks consisting of one player from each respective class will he eligible to challenge the holders. The committee will hold a meeting early this week, and draw up the conditions for a challenge and the period to elapse between challenges. Throughout the competition players have been very keen, and a great deal of interest lias been manifested in the various games, the gdeen, during Ihe past week’, presenting an unusually animated appearance. Quite a number of challenges are already mentioned., and no doubt the trophies will freqiieiitlv change hands. A number of visitors, including several Alexandra players, were in Cromwell last week, and spent a good deal of time on the green.
