NOSES MADE FROM SHINBONES.

UP TO-DATB METHODS OP ’FACIAL SPECIALISTS. Sigh no more, ladies, sigh no more, Beauty is knocking at your door. In fact, judging by the prophecy ol Dr. Hans Keraten, the well-known medical specialist of Berlin, the time is coming when every woman will be beautiful, and men will stand amazed at the brilliant cbarms of every member of the opposite sex. Says the worthy doctor : “Skilful surgeons are already able to replace missing organs, such as ears and noses, so perfectly that no scar is seen. That being so, they can reduce or increase the size of any facial organ, and, as all beauty is symmetry, the most misshapen face can be transformed into a likeness of Apollo. And the artificial beauty may be of the highest type. It is quite an easy matter to reduce exceptionally big ears, narrow 1 unduly distended nostrils, straighten a crooked nose, and take away all blemishes of the skin. Radiant liquid air, frozen carbolic acid gas, electricity, when properly applied, are all beautifiers. The woman of the future will be the radiant daughter of these miraculous forces of Nature.’’ BEAUTIFIED NOSES AND MARRIAGE. Already, however, scientific skill has been applied to remedying Nature’s defects in a wonderfully successful manner. Another German doctor, for instance, Dr. Jacques Joseph has made quite a reputation on account of the manner in which he reconstructs ugly noses. “I remedy every day.’’ be said a short time ago, ‘"by operative means,' defective noses of various kinds. Noses from which, by Nature, illness, or accident part or nearly the whole is missing. I build up the nose from the inside, after delicate use of the knife, by Injecting either liquid or solid paraffin or by fitting in a piece of the patient’s own shin-bone. Crooked noses can also be straightened from within, without leaving any semblance of scars on the outside ; and almost every week I get engagement-cards of men and women ex-patients, who, long denied matrimonial bliss on account of repulsive noses, now describe me as the architect of their newfound happiness.’' The use of electricity as a beautlfier, mentioned by Dr. Kersten, has produced some wonderful results. By its means impared complexions can be restored, wrinkles can be eradicated, and dimples produced. It is also largely used in the removal of what is commonly known as port-wine stain, although many people believe that it is impossible to remove this blemish from a person’s features. , WONDERFUL APPLIANCES. The appliances of beauty specialists are really wonderful. One of the latest is an apparatus with a series of thumb-screws for making the finger-nails a better shape. Then there is an elaborate face and fneck mask for removing wrinkles, and a chin strap which drives away that nightmare of many women —a double chin. N Equally remarkable is the slight operation by which beauty doctors are able to beautify the ears. This operation, which is practically painless, and in which only a little cocaine or any local anaesthetic is required, consists in removing from the back of the ear a small wedge-shaped piece of cartilage and skin, so that when the edges are united the ear can be pulled back into its proper position.—“Tit-Bits.”
