A short discussion ensued on the question of rabbittiag the endowment. Several councillors commented on the fact that while the Borough was endeavoring 'to cope with the pest nothing was bedng done on the surrounding country, which was swarming with rabbits, and by the inroads of these no diminution was noticeable on the borough land. The council was in favor of continuing the work provided the adjoining land was treated simultaneously. Cr Ritchie (chairman of the water committee) reported that in connection with the matter of water courses round the tennis courts the committee had inspected the ground, and the best way of rectifying matters would be to ask the tennis club to lay down a pipe from the main leading to the bawling green to the place where there was difficulty in running the water, and this would do away with the necessity of running the water near the courts. He had conferred with the secretary of the club who was of opinion the club would fall in with the suggestion on condition that the council planted some trees on the south side of the courts. He (Cr Ritchie) believed the council would be justified iu planting the trees as requested. In connection pith the plan of the water service, Cr Ritchie reported that owing to the absence of CT Scott nothing had been done beyond interviewing Mr Tidey on the matter. Mr Tidey was prepared to undertake the work, and p;as satisfied he could locate every tapping, but would require an assistant. The work would be proceeded with as soon as a full meeting of the water committee was held. Cr Ritchie [also stated (hat the leak in the pipe-line on the Lowbnrn-Kawa-rau Gorge road had been repaired and the pipe-line was now in splendid order.
