Dredging and Mining.
The rivers are still at a low level and were not affected by Saturday's rain, which was accompanied with a fall of snow on the high country. Hartley had a big mishap on Thursday nighs, when the hangers carried away aud the buckets became fouled on the ladder. The ladder and backets have been recovered and the dredge will start again as soon as repairs are effected. Prospects continua poor. Shine I is.still on vary indifferent ground with small returns. The Laggate Hydraulic Sluicing Company's property will be offered for sale by auction at Cromwell on March 80th. The Cromwell Gold Mines Development Company's property was offered by auction on Saturday last by Mr J. la i vers, to satisfy liens for wages lodged ia the Warden's Court. The property wa3 knocked down to Mr J. Goodger at £1:30. The hydraulic claim at Quartz Reef Point is at present idle. The water supply has been short of late and pro3pscta were not altogether couraging. The fature operations of the company were to be decided at a meeting hold in Dunedin last week. The Cromwell syndicate dredge has beou opening out a cut ia the mouth of the Banuockburn creek, and as very payable ground was worked in Gb.3 river alongside it is probable tint the creek will tuni out well. At pro seufc SMiiu repairs are being effected. Electric I did not have a wash-up last week, bemg stopped for a considerable time through a mishap to the bucket belt and ladder. Tiie dredge master oi the Rising Sua reports for week ending 2nd March as follows : Dredged 133 hours and the same distance ahead as last week on a similar cut The wash is getting heavier The machinery is running well.
