DAVID AND GOLIATH
Lord Roberts was chatting with some friends at a reception one night when a very tall man came up and asked to be introduced to the very famous little soldier. After the introduction had been made, the tall man —who happened to be one of those unpleasant people whose whole idea of humour is to raise, a laugh at somebody clso’s expense—shaded his eyes. w'ith his hand as th nigh Lord Robeets, being so small, could only be seen with difficulty. “ 1 have often heard of you,” he remarked, moving his head from side to side, as though trying to get a better view, ‘‘ but I have never seen you.” " That is very possible,” Lord Roberts replied, promptly, “ for I have often seen you, but I have never heard of you.”
