Cromwell Caledonian Society.
A general meeting of the above held on Tuesday evening was attended by Messrs Er. Jolly (in the chair), C. Holden, T. Blackie, H. Orr, 11. Varcoo senr, A. Johnston, A. Tidey, W. Delaney, D. Cahill, 1). Young, W, Olds, M. O’Driscoll, and 11. Varcoe. A letter was read from Clark Bros., Dunedin, offering their services at a fee for the Caledonian concert, and signifying their intention of competing in all dancing and piping events at the sports. It was decided to hand the letter over to the concert committee to consider, and to make a recommendation to a future meeting, A discussion took place in regard to erecting additional dressing accommodation on the grounds, and the secretary was instructed to order jarrah palings from Dunedin for the work, the other necessary timber to be procured locally. The chairman referred to the approach of the annual sports meeting, and was of opinion that a start should be made getting the ground in readiness. It was agreed that all members should meet on the ground on Wednesday, 28th inst, for the purpose of preparing the ground. The chairman made reference to the bereavement in the family of one of the society’s members (Mr E. May) and informed the meeting that the secretary had written conveying the society’s sympathy. Mr D. Young offered a special donation of £'L Is towards the funds of the society.—Received with thanks. In regard to the office of president, which was not filled at the annual meeting, Mr Er. Jolly said he had the consent of one member for nomination —Mr Thos. Blackie. He w r as sure that member would make an excellent -president, as he had a good grasp of the work, and was an enthusiastic member. Mr M. O’Driscoll seconded the motion, which was carried .unanimously. The meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the chair.
