CHINESE VERMILION MAKERS HOLD SECRET OF AGES.
The manufacture of vermilion, which is one of the foremost industries of Hongkong, and entirely in I the hands of the Chinese, is very an--1 cient. They made artificial cinnabar (a form of mercury, the base of vermilion) lone; before Europe was civilised and some of the granite stones between which the pulverised ore is ground are almost prehistoric. Even in the present day there are trade secrets in the industry which no European has been able to fathom. There are over one hundred of these manufacturing plants in Hoogkong and Kowloon.
