Cromwell Athenaeum Committee

Tlu: monthly meeting of the above was held in the Library on Tuesday evening, 13th February. Present: - Messrs W. F. Abel (in the chair) W. VV. Menzies, A. M. Irvine, W. D. Jolly, (J. J. Scott, P. Thomas, and L. Harris. Minutes of last meeting were confinned. Inward correspondence consisted of a memo from the secretary, Cromwell Volunteer Fire Brigade, covering a cheque for £l O, rent of hall for the recent bazaar, and requesting the favor of a donation towards the brigade fund. Resolved that the sum of =£2 2s be donated to the funds of the Cromwell Volunteer Fire Brigade. The Treasurer's report showed a credit balance of £U) 17s sd. Accounts amounting £l2 B.s 7d were passed for payment. Mr Jolly brought up the question of the charge for the hall for Territorial training. The department considered that 10s per night was excessive. Mr Jolly pointed out that the hall was only occupied by the Territorials for about one ami a-half boms each night, anil the caretaker's woi k was not increased to any extent. The ball was required every Tuesday, but on alternate Tuesdays, if the hall was required for more profitable purposes, another night could be arranged. After some discussion it was decided on the casting vote of the chairman, that the charge be reduc :d to 7s 6d per night, or if engaged definitely for one year, £\'d per annum. Resolved— That P. Thorn is be instructed to.make another small book case, the cost not to exceed £'&. Resolved that no charge lie made for the use of the hall on the occasion of the recent visit of Dunedin citizens. The meeting closed with the usual vote to the chair.
