From the secretary, Cromwell Tennis Club, iu connction with the water channels to the trees, which the caretaker reported had been closed by the club. The writer also addeil that the club had a grievance in the fact that the bowling club had removed several trees planted outside the tennis courts on the north end. The complaint against the bowling club was not considered, but the Water Committee was instructed to meet the committee of the Tennis Club on the ground and investigate the other issue, with power to act. Retorts. The caretaker of the new race reported that it was in good order and there was plenty of water, —Received. The dayman reported that the old reservoir was full.—Received. Cr Ritchie (chairman of the water committee) reported in regard to Mr W. Gair's application that he had interviewed the ap; Leant and found a mistake had been made in the number of the section. The tapping was required for section 1.0, not section 12 as formerly applied for, and the committee recommended that the application be granted. Cr Ritchie also reported that the settling dam had been cleaned out, and that the pipe line was in good order. There was one bad leak where the line crossed the Lowburn-Kawarau Gorge road, and he had given instructions to have this examined to ascertain the cause.—Received. The recommendation in regard to W. Gair's application was approved. The bank book showed a debit balance of £524 0s 4d. Accounts amounting to £l9 lis lid were passed for payment. Cr Scott raised the question of having a plan prepared of the water service, showing the various connections, valves, lire plugs and services, He considered this was very necessary as only one man had any knowledge of this service, and if by any reason lie should leave the district, the absence of a plan would cause considerable trouble. Such a plan would be useful to the lire brigade and for the general information of the council. Cr Jolly supported the proposal and further suggested keeping a record of the services in a book to be obtained for that purpose, to which all future grants would be added. Other councillors concurred, and the Water Committee was empowered to confer with Mr Tidey and make arrangements to have this plan prepared. The dayman reported to the Mayor that horses were still wandering within the borough, particularly at the sand dunes, but he was unable to clearl}' identify these for the purpose of prosecuting, although he was satisfied as to the owners. .It was recommended to engage a man and provide him with a horse, to yard the horses for the purpose of ascertaining brands and distinguishing marks, In regard to a team of draught horses wandering in the streets last week it was suggested to write and notify the owner of the team. The dayman applied for a fortnights leave of absence to attend the Territorial training camp. It was agreed to grant the request on full pay, provided the dayman can find a suitable substitute to attend to his work during that time. Cr Ritchie staled that a laitgo patch of lupin on the sand barrier had been destroyed by lire, but he could not say how the lire originated, lie pointed out that this was a very serious matter as a very large area might be swept. He suggested issuing a note of warning. It was resolved to offer a reward, by advertisement in the Cromwell Aur.rs, to obtain information against offenders. Cr Murray gave notice of motion — That in future the hour of meeting be fixed at 7.30 p.m instead of S p.m as at present. The customary vote to the chair closed the meeting.
